Next: Draft Thesis
Up: Detailed Project Requirements
Previous: Seminar I
After the first seminar, you have about ten weeks to complete your project,
and a further eight weeks to write the thesis.
To encourage you to begin work on your thesis early, and to enable to you
to get feedback, you are required to hand in an early draft of your thesis.
The early draft should contain the following:
- Chapter 1 (Introduction). This will include a revised project proposal
that provides the motivation for the project and a description of what
is to be achieved. The chapter must take into account comments received
from the Supervisor when the Project Proposal was submitted.
- Chapter 2 (Literature Review). This will include a revised
Literature Review that was submitted earlier in the year and
again must take into account the comments of the supervisor. The
Review should also discuss literature discovered since
the Review was submitted. A list of references is to be included.
- An Outline of the Thesis.
This should list all the chapter and section headings that are expected
to be included in the final thesis, and briefly describe the contents of
each one.
A brief description of what has been achieved so far and a timetable for
work still to be done should be included in the substantive chapters.
Supervisors are not expected to read ``drafts'' of this document, but you
should consult with them.
With regard to preparation and presentation, refer to Appendix C.
The early draft must be submitted to your supervisor and your reader.
