Each student will have a computer account on the Department servers. You will be eligible to use the inter-library loan facilities. Ordinarily, shared office accommodation is available for all students.
Students are allowed to use the main Department photocopier and laser printers to copy and print material which is related to their academic work. Each student will receive a free ``credit'' of 1000 pages of photocopying and 1000 pages of printing at the beginning of the year.
The department's computer systems have been set up to automatically keep
track of the number of pages you print.
You can use the command prpages to find out your current printing
credit limit.
Photocopier usage will be monitored using a PIN number system attached to the
copier.
See the secretary to be allocated a PIN number for use for all your
course-related copying.
If your copying or printing credit limit has been reached, extra pages can be obtained at the rate of five cents per page. The procedure is as follows:
A word of warning about printing and photocopying: experience tells us that it is easy for an individual student to consume significant resources through printing and photocopying (amounts over $500 for the year per student are not unheard of). To limit your financial exposure you should make sure to only print or copy documents that are necessary in printed form. Good on-screen previewing facilities exist for a variety of documents; in many cases it is only necessary to print the final version of a document you are producing.
